Kevin Williamsonartistic director
Kevin Williamson is the artistic director of KDUB DANCE, founded in Los Angeles in 2008. Kevin began training and performing commercially at the age of ten. He received his BA in World Arts and Cultures in 2004 from UCLA. Since he has performed for Julie Taymor, Angelin Preljocaj, Robert Moses, Maria Gillespie, David Gordon, Stephan Koplowitz, Sebastian Prantl, David Bridel, and Kate Hutter across the US, UK, and Europe. Kevin is a member of Robert Moses’ Kin, Oni Dance, and a founding member of Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company (LACDC). He is the winner of this year’s Lester Horton Award for Outstanding Achievement in Male Performance and one of the Beverly Hills Outlook’s Male Performer of the year in 2010.
Choreographically, Kevin has created works for LACDC, Los Angeles Movement Arts (LAMA), Fringe Festival Scotland, Highways Performance Space, House of Blues (Las Vegas), Freud Theatre (UCLA), and Miami’s Winter Music Conference. Williamson’s interest is in the fragility, and flailing nature of structured improvisation, and the idiosyncratic possibilities of contemporary choreography. His hope is that KDUB DANCE will create opportunities for artists and audiences to experience the potency of live dance theatre in a format that is an open, and on-going dialogue.
Kevin began teaching in the studio network at the age of 16. During college he was an instructor, and choreographer for four dance academies in Southern California. He became the full-time dance educator at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes in 2008, and most recently finished a Teacher’s Fellowship awarded by Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine. Kevin’s philosophy is that each class is a unique, imperfect dance experience focused on somatic functions, performance skill sets, and healthy risk-taking.
